About my girl

The Husband and the Bambino have been back a week already and the kids are adjusting well to being together again. During the two weeks I was alone with my little girl and got to spend tons of one-on-one time with her, I  came to realize something. She was different. This was not the same girl that I see when her brother is around. This girl didn’t yell (much), she hardly ever cried and she just seemed happy and content. And oh GAWD this girl was funny!  She has a sense of humour that has me in stitches, she is sweeter than candy and blows me kisses from across the room, making these cute little smacking sounds. She has discovered Teletubbies and will pat the TV when she wants me to turn it on (which is bascially 24/7 – oh joy). Her brother hasn’t allowed her to ever choose a DVD, so they have been watching the stuff he likes, like Winnie the Pooh, which she isn’t interested in yet. Oh, the fighting that has taken place since he has been back and discovered that he now has to share the TV with his sister. There might still be casualties, I’ll keep you posted.

So, the thing is that The Bambino causes my girl to behave in a totally different way, to be more aggressive, assertive, to defend her right to toys with a high-pitched squeel that makes the windows shake. I wonder if she is happy. She seems so much more relaxed now, content and easy-going. I have loved her from the moment I laid eyes on her, but the girl I spent 2 whole weeks alone with – this ray of sunshine that I’ve newly discovered – she had me falling in love all over, to enjoy almost every waking moment with her, whether we were dancing to some silly kiddie songs, or watching the ever annoying Teletubbies or just sitting close making funny faces at each other.

Here are a few photos I took of her during our days of girlie bonding.

Hugging the piles of newly purchased clothes (gotta love the after-Christmas sales!) in an effort to avoid having a diaper put on.

She loves brushing her teeth. Especially when she doesn’t have to fight with her brother to get to stand on the stool.januari-2009-061_cropped_resized

Some snuggling and wrestling and fun after bath.

Playing with Brio trains. Well, wrecking it, more than playing, but at least it kept her busy for a long, long time.

Well, that’s it for today.

Now I have some cuddling to do with my boy before the Bambina wakes up from her nap.

Ciao!

  1. She’s gorgeous Minna, so pretty and so BIG now!! I can hardly believe it.

I totally agree on how different kids can be when you’re alone with them. I just wrote a post about having a “date” with Peter this weekend and how wonderful and amazing it was to spend a day with him. I just loved it and he was such a different kid when he was alone with me. I know siblings are an amazing thing to have, and in the long run you won’t have to worry b/c your Bambina will be so happy to have her big brother around. The bickering stage can’t last THAT long, right???
