Rocca di Papa and Villa Pamphili

What a wonderful weekend it has been!

Yesterday we drove 5 kilometers further up the hill to a town called Rocca di Papa. Beauuuu-ti-ful!!! The streets are so narrow and steep it looks unreal and I can only imagine the stamina and strong legs the locals must have! There was a playground in the main square and the Bimbo was happy as a clam running around with daddy. We walked up the narrow street and found a caffé, ordered juice (for the Bimbo), a cappuccino (for the husband), tea (for a very exhausted mamma) and three mouthwatering pastries (and yes, I had more than my fair share) all for the incredible price of…..

6 euro. Unbelievable.

Today we met up with a colleague of my husband, a native Roman by the name of Roberto, who showed us a part of the wonderful Villa Doria Pamphili park. He told us of its interesting history, how the Doria Pamphili family had to sell it to the city of Rome in the 1960’s, how it’s been used by the city ever since and of it’s beautiful gardens. The park is huge, covering 1.8 sq km and we only saw a small part of it today, saving the actual villa for another day.  Oliver loved playing by the pond, running around on the vast lawns collecting flowers, but as usually the dogs scared him to tears on more than one occasion. We saw dozens of boy and girl scouts having meetings in the park and looking so cute in their little uniforms, groups of guys playing football, people jogging, kids and dogs running wild. Too bad the weather didn’t quite live up to the forecast of a sunny, warm day, but at least the clouds didn’t seem to scare people into hiding.

  4. [...] This is the street outside our building. Normally it’s busy as hell, totally congested and with lots of honking friendly communication going on. The town perched on top of the hill is Rocca di Papa. [...]

  5. [...] Villa Doria Pamphili – part two Posted on October 11, 2009 by Minna Funny how things turn out. A year and a half ago we visited Villa Doria Pamphili (apparently the famous family prefers to have the name written Pamphilj, but whatever) with our friend Roberto and had a wonderful time. We didn’t see the whole park during that first visit, it was just too big and we had too much fun staying by the pond where the Bambino was busy trying to catch fish, I was busy cuddling with my baby girl and, well. You know.  Part one of this story is right here. [...]
